.....is Sydney the place for me? I'm starting to get concerned that i'm going from a very small scene here in London to a non-existant one in Sydney... How do lesbians meet other lesbians? I've heard (from a gay guy visiting from Sydney) that lesbians in Oz tend to hook-up and settle down as soon as they meet a suitable girl. Is it true? *gulp* Would like to hear everyone's views....

Have you had a look at the calendar? Really there is plenty on. Also after the Mardi Gras season The Pussycat Club will be on every Saturday night at the Oxford. Then there is the Red Rattler (which im about to add to the out & about page) and while its not a bar as such or strictly lesbian only i believe it is open every weekend and is run by 5 queer women. I don't mean to be rude but perhaps you should come along to some of our events before declaring our scene 'non existent'? Girlthing tonight is a perfect opportunity, it usually gathers 500-600 girls. Now i could be wrong, but i was always under the impression that London has one of the biggest lesbian scenes in the world... but you refer to it as 'very small'. While i find the Sydney scene quite adequate i doubt it is quite so big as the London one... The L word convention was cancelled because the tickets were over priced which discouraged people from going. Though personally i think they should have waited a bit longer before cancelling as im sure a lot of girls were planning on going but just hadnt bought their tickets yet.

Thanks Claar and my apologies, i really didn't mean to offend anyone. I have read some of the forums and had a look at the calendar and that is why i posted these questions.... As for the London lesbian scene, It really isnt as big as everyone thinks/says it is. Have you been here? The recession (which started here two years ago and still continues) has seen the few dedicated bars/nights close their doors. There are only a handful of decent lesbian nights here, and the scene is 'small' in the sense that its always the same girls that attend, but that is the lesbian scene anywhere. There is no event for example that draws in 500-600 girsl (besides perhaps london and brighton pride). What London does provide well for is an alternative BDSM/Bi scene which is starting to gain ground a lot more. I only get there in July but i will be sure to check out your recommendations. Have a good day

Actually ive been away visiting a friend down the coast and have not had internet access. The scene is ever changing, so its hard to know where will be best to go in July. Best to check back at the time. I've been to London (used to live there) but that was when i was young and so ive never experienced the lesbian scene first hand, ive heard lots about it though. Now that you mention it i did hear that Candy Bar shut down i think, though dont quote me on that. Apart from the clubbing scene we also have a thriving queer scene. I tend to think of them as two separate things though of course they are linked, but the queer scene seems to incorporate things other than just nightlife such as art, activism, etc etc. Anyway once you get here you can check it out for yourself and ill be happy to point you in the right direction depending on what your looking for.

It seems, all around the world, the gay men are more pro-active. =(

@ Kira, I'm sure it will change when i get there, i'm quite a "proactive" little lesbo. @ Claah - good to have you back. Thanks for all your recommendations. Candy Bar is unfortunately still open. Everything is very random here too, must be the recession. Anyway, thanks again for the advice. Hopefully we can arrange a night out with some of the girsl on here when i arrive. Apparently (so i've been told) some of the nights have been a blast. And i think i owe you a drink Claah for getting your name wrong and rubbing you up the wrong way with my debuting post, oops...
