thank god for holidays...i can now go on a much needed film and novel binge. really nothing is as fulfilling as staying up til 3am watching pixelated movies on youtube. anyway, anyone recommend any good lesbian films or books? i recently watched 'desert hearts'...wasn't bad. and have yet to watch mulholland dr. (by the seriously twisted david lynch) umm...as for books. i really can't think of anything.... except maybe perhaps virginia woolf's 'orlando' but then again, when orlando was with women he was still technically a man.... but still, apparently it was written as an extended love letter to vita sackville-west. anywho, it was a good book nonetheless. any recommendations?

Def get your hands on Mulholland Drive during your hols. Trippy and glossy with some gorgeous girls too. If you've got the time i'd also highly recommend the BBC series Tipping the Velvet or Ch 4 series Sugar Rush. Both very different but equally enjoyable. On the books front Sarah Waters is a good one to try. If in doubt there's always lesbian erotica. Happy holidays!

i will always have a softspot for fingersmith. it combines so many things i like; 19th centruy england, intrigue, mistaken identities, a fair few plot twists... oh and girls falling in love with girls as for tv, like mokkers mentioned above, sugar rush is amazing. seriously one of the funniest shows i've ever seen, the fact that it's about a 15yr old lesbian is really just a plus. and if you haven't seen skins (a british tv show) season 3, then i would recommend that too! hope that helps!

Wasn't a fan of Fingersmith, although I love ye olde English settings. Movie: For "Loving Annabelle" there is an alternate/secret ending, it should be up on Youtube, and worth to see it if you were unsatisfied with the original ending Fire (Indian) haven't seen it, but I watched Water and I liked what the director did Love My Life (Japanese) is OK, preferred the comic Boys Don't Cry. Well technically not Lesbian, but still good movie Anime: "Aoi Hana" was recently adapted into an animation. I like the comic and read other comics by the same author. Noir & El Cazador de la Bruja are only lesbian in sub-text (no confession, etc). But I KNOW IT EXISTS There's shit tons (ok, not as much as gay men) of lesbian anime/manga but I'm not bothered to list'em all since it's hard to sift through all the crap. :x Novel: The Color Purple The Well of Loneliness

a little late for your holidays, but you can put these on your list for next time. lesbian film doesn't get very much love. most of the popular titles are pretty tacky + end with someone dying or going back to their 'normal' life. lost and delirious = puke. here are my favourites -- fucking amal - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0150662/ popular school girl gets to know the weird kid. but i'm a cheerleader - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0179116/ probably my favourite lesbian film ever, it's definitely underrated. cheerleader (natasha lyonne, babe), is sent to a refuge to be 'de-gayed'. vampyros lesbos - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066380/ lesbian vampires done right! it was released in the 70's, banned for ages -- has been recovered from the vaults and remastered. the soundtrack is amazing too, real psychedelic. as for books, i've never come across any lesbian fiction that has blown me away. however, the first edition of susan sontag's diaries ('reborn: journals and notebooks 1947-1963) are a great read. hope that helps.

Movies - But I'm a Cheerleader is probably my favourite. Also The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love is really cute. And although it's not explicitly lesbian (apparently the book it's based on is... but I haven't read it) I love Fried Green Tomatoes. "You're just a bee charmer, Idgie Threadgoode." <3 I'm yet to read any books though. The ones I've heard of all seem kind of trashy... I'm probably just being a snob though.
