The Pink Calendar - now available in Oz!

The PinkCalendar.com is an Irish charity calendar that has been set up to celebrate the diversity of lesbian women in Ireland. This calendar was made by women who like women, for women who like women!

We hope the production of the calendar will... Encourage each of us to express who we are and how we see ourselves as gay women.Increase the visibility of gay women on the scene and in society.Show that we are many and varied; that there is no one way to be or look like a lesbian. The proceeds of the sale of this calendar will go to two very worthy groups, LGBT Noise and BeLonGTo.

With the success of the nationwide demonstrations on August 1st forsame sex marriage, activists have decided to continue to push forwardfor equality with a year long, grass roots campaign, called 'TheNational Year of Action' which will be launched on November 28th

The year of action promises to be the largest, most vibrant andhistoric campaign this country has ever seen for the rights of LGBTI Australians.

So far Perth, Brisbane, Canberra, Lismore, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney have confirmed actions on the 28th of November to launch the campaign.

On Thursday November 26th, two days before the launch, the SenateCommittee reviewing Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young's MarriageEquality Amendment Bill, will release their report, which will make anumber of recommendations on whether or not same-sex couples should beallowed to marry in Australia.

Co-Convenor Ben Cooper stated "The days of being treated as secondclass citizens and growing up invisible must come to an end. For toolong we have been treated as if our deepest feelings, our love and ourfamilies are second rate, abnormal, unnatural and distorted. For toolong we have been bullied, bashed, censored, raped, rejected andtortured. For too long we have been repressed, marginalised, vilifiedand silenced. For too long we have been told we are not equal."

L Word Convention Cancelled

The L Word Convention Down Under has been canceled due to poor ticket sales. Their website was updated with this message earlier today:

Dear L Word Down Under Convention Ticket Purchasers.

Dueto the lack of tickets sales for the L Word Down Under Convention,United L Events Inc. is regrettably cancelling the event.

Please note that all ticket purchasers will be processed within 5 daysof the cancellation, (excluding booking fees) and according to theterms and conditions on the website.

The convention had many confirmed guests including Marlee Matlin (Jodi), Rachel Shelley (Helena), Laurel Holloman (Tina), Anne Ramsay (Robin) and Rose Rollins (Tasha). Leisha Hailey (Alice) had also been confirmed but recently pulled out. U.S Comedian Poppy Champlin would have been MC-ing. Apparently premium and earliy bird tickets ($450 and $325 respectivly) had already been sold out, but at a price of $350 it seems that general admission tickets were considered too pricey for most.

The L Word Convention would have been from Friday 22nd - 24th January 2010.
